So this was kind of a big steak day…
Had the day off and was quite hungry, I wasn’t going to be catching up with anyone today so I went and cut off a double-size steak from my ribeye slab, covered it in smoked pink salt flakes and pepper and herbs, and roasted the sucker.
I then proceeded to devour the entire thing in one solid hit, never putting the utensils down…
…except to take a photo.
And then I went caveman on the bones.
Then a few hours later a friend wanted to catch up for a drink, then after a drink she wanted to go to dinner, I told her I’d just eaten the best part of a kilo of steak so no, but I’d have a drink while she ate.
So for convenience sake we went to Griffins Head, turns out Tuesday is steak night, and on their specials board is a rump for $12. I thought “Twelve bucks? Fuck it, I’ll have another steak!”. Turns out it was actually quite decent, go figger.
Then my girlfriend turned up, she had a couple drinks with us and wanted dinner. Fair enough, I’ll have a drink while you eat, again…
We went to Andre’s around the corner, a great little intimate restaurant. She’s not much of a red meat eater – I’ve never seen her have more than a bite or two of my steaks the whole time I’ve known her – but lo and behold she orders the 400g striploin.
Well, I had to try some, man this thing is soooo tasty, it sits on balsamic and rocket, and is covered in parmesan. The mushrooms on the side are utterly fantastic with cashews and whatnot, and the combination of these shrooms and this steak are one of indulgent excellence. I think the steak was $38 and the mushrooms $17 bucks, cannot recommend enough, go do it.
…Aaaand as it turned out, her appetite isn’t that big sooooo I kinda ended up eating about 2/3 of it.
So yeah, three steaks in one day – actually three steaks in about 5 hours, somewhere near 1.5kg of meat.
Steak challenge? Accepted.
