On weekdays The Stag do half price steaks for members, and the waitresses are very attentive and entertaining because they’ve got nothing better to do.
On the menu they have a chateaubriand which is designed to be shared amongst two people, however it’s only 500g and I already knew I wouldn’t be satisfied with a meagre 250g of meat, so two of us ordered this “dish for two”, and the other guy ordered a 500g rump.
The rump on half price day is like $14 – total bargain – the chateaubriand comes with mushrooms, onion rings, chips, mash, green veggies, and a choice of three sauces. When the chick asked which we wanted we asked which three sauces we could choose from… Nope – you get THREE SAUCES from their selection!
The bearnaise was delicious, the blue cheese was way too overpowering for me – but I guess other folk who aren’t as pussy as me would enjoy it, the pepper was a delight, the garlic and worcestershire was ok I guess, but in the end I find it hard to get past just garlic/herb butter as pretty much the ultimate steak sauce.
Oh yeah the normal price for a chateaubriand meal deal is $80 bucks, not a chance I’d do it at that price, but at $40 bucks it felt like a banquet of six pieces of steak with loads of sauces and a few random bits to taste, totally worth it at half-price.
Here’s the sauces… (BTW, don’t do the “more ‘sources’ than Wikipedia”, they’ve heard all the bad jokes)
It’s difficult to get an idea of scale of this plate, it is basically 3 times the size of a normal dinner plate.
If you’re in town, you should go to the Bull & Bear restaurant in Orlando, FL. They have a steak called the Tomahawk, a 32oz dry aged steak. It’s incredible.
